Waymarkers...

March 15, 2017

It's when ordinary people rise above the expectations and seize the opportunity that milestones truly are reached.       Mike Huckabee

At first glance milestones may appear out of reach

Last year we entered into an interim period, which was effectively an Internship, leading up to 2017 when God willing we would graduate into an independent church within the Uniting Church in Australia.

That Internship period was strategized much like a journey, with a timelines and ‘way-marks.’ Sometime referred to as ‘milestones or guide-stone’, way-markers indicate stages on the journey.

God was obviously willing and so were all of you, together as a church we made some hard yards and touched each milestone, each way-maker towards graduation.

We really had to stretch to touch some of them.

A Reminder

After the exodus from Egypt, the wandering through the Wilderness, and then crossing the River Jordan, Joshua told each tribe to pull a stone out of the river, and to start to build an altar on the west side of the river.

This stack of stones was to be a reminder to the people that God had led them safely on their journey to the land of Canaan – promised to their forbearers.

This week we put down a new guide stone, nothing as grand as those pulled from the Jordan River, but significant never the less.

On the 15th March 2017 we made our very own contribution to the Mission and Service Fund. Up to this point in time, Newlife Uniting Church Robina has made this contribution on our behalf.

Staying On Track

In a literal sense guide-stones serve to keep traveller on track.

Pilgrims have been following guide-stone for centuries. Many of which where left by earlier travellers who marked their own progress and gave thanks to God by placing a stone as a simple memorial.

‘Uniting North’ would not exist today if it were not for those who went before us pilgrims, pioneers, people of faith who marked their journey with tangible often-substantial financial support to the mission of making disciples and planting churches in our region and throughout our state.

Contributing to the Mission and Service fund marks an important stage of our journey. We will continue with these guide-stones, these financial contributions each month.

Through 2017 these contributions will amount to eight thousand dollars and will increase to ten thousand in 2018. These contributions are first and foremost an offering to God. They will help us mark and celebrate our own progress on this journey of faith. They will also give much needed supports and encourage others on their journey.

I love serving Him with you.
