Our Beginnings

Our Beginnings

The vision was to establish a vibrant Uniting Church at Esplanade in Coomera, which would be both community and mission focussed. This was achieved when one of the oldest Uniting Churches joined in covenant with one of the youngest Uniting Churches in the South Moreton Presbytery to worship and work together in the name of Christ.

After extensive consultation and mutual work between the two Congregations, the Presbytery of South Moreton, at its meeting of 11 November 2017, resolved that the congregation of Coomera Uniting Church and the congregation of Uniting North Gold Coast be recognised as a new Congregation and be known as Uniting North Coomera  (-UNC).

This new Congregation was incorporated on 6 May 2018, during a worship service that offered this journey of transition to Jesus Christ, the Lord and Head of the Church.

The Coomera Uniting Church had its origins in the Methodist Church in 1874, soon after European settlement. The life and witness of that Congregation has been part of the fabric of this community for 145 years, with the original church site still in situ at Esplanade, Coomera.

The other, Uniting North Gold Coast, began as a church plant of Newlife Uniting Church at Pacific Pines in 2011. It became its own Congregation in 2016, as a transitional step, emerging from its parent church in order to be ready for a new era.

With gratitude for God’s faithfulness in the past, with hope for God’s provision and purpose for our future, in the light of the Easter dawn which reveals a world being made new through the death and resurrection of Christ – Uniting North Coomera has stepped out in faith and obedience to Christ.

more changes still to come!!

Our Primary Focus Is Preparing Future Leaders

We have been seeking God’s Vision, His succession plan, for both the now and thirty years from now. Jesus’ training of the ‘Twelve’ is the succession plan that we follow.

We believe:

  • A discipling culture is the engine for long-term, sustainable mission.

  • The pre-requisite for ministry and mission is a discipleship culture lived-out in a missional context.

  • Discipleship is about imitating Jesus; both becoming like Jesus and doing the things Jesus did.

“If you make disciples, you will always get the church. But, if you try to build the church, you will rarely get disciples.”
- Mike Breen
